Obama Says He “Didn’t Raise Taxes Once”

Posted by courage On February - 9 - 2011

A taxpayer watchdog group is throwing a penalty flag on President Obama’s assertion in a Super Bowl pre-game interview that he didn’t raise taxes, claiming the president signed into law at least two dozen tax increases.

“Just 16 days into his presidency, Obama signed into law a 156 percent increase in the federal excise tax on tobacco — a hike of 62 cents per pack,” Americans for Tax Reform said in a press release Monday, arguing that Obama’s approval of this tax hike was a violation on his campaign pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class.

Seeking to burnish his centrist credentials, President Obama told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly Sunday that he “didn’t raise taxes once.”

“I lowered taxes over the last two years,” he said in an interview that aired before the heavily-viewed Superbowl on Sunday.

But ATR cites the health care law as an Obama administration imperative that contains two dozen new or higher taxes, including the individual mandate tax and the employer mandate tax.

“President Obama’s entire claim of being a net tax-cutter rests merely upon the temporary tax relief he has signed into law,” the group said. “The tax increases Obama has signed into law have invariably been permanent. In fact, Obama has signed into law $7 in permanent tax hikes for every $1 in permanent tax cuts.”

One of Obama’s temporary tax cuts was in the 2% decrease in Social Security payroll withholding’s whether you agree with the federally mandated system or not, the truth is that the system is in deep financial trouble.  Last year was the first time SS was paying out more money then it was receiving, by reducing the amount of withholding Obama has assured a larger deficit in the fund and hastened an inevitable crisis.

The quasi-extended Bush tax rates kept status quo on some rates while raising other rates such as the Estate Tax, otherwise known as the Death tax.  In 2010, the death tax rate was at 0 (zero), under Obama that rate has jumped to 35%.  There is NO moral justification in the re-taxing of estate assets after an individual dies, unless of course you believe in redistributing the wealth of productive people.

What should be clear to most who watch the political maneuvers of Obama, do not listen to what he says, watch what policies he advocates and eventual does, to him words mean little.  Or perhaps we should take the pResident at his word, he didn’t raise a single tax but rather a bunch of taxes.  So in the immortal words of Joe Wilson… “you lie.”

Flashback to Health Care Debate and Where We are NOW

Posted by courage On July - 18 - 2010

Continually throughout the Health Care debate, if you want to call it that, Democrats insisted that the “penalty” (as described by the language of the bill) was NOT a tax.  The pResident emphasized this very point while being interviewed by ABC’s Stephanopoulos.

A short cut from the interview:

STEPHANOPOULOS:  I wanted to check for myself.  But your critics say it is a tax increase.

OBAMA:  My critics say everything is a tax increase.  My critics say that I’m taking over every sector of the economy.  You know that. Look, we can have a legitimate debate about whether or not we’re going to have an individual mandate or not, but…

STEPHANOPOULOS:  But you reject that it’s a tax increase?

OBAMA:  I absolutely reject that notion.  (emphasis mine)

Now the first suit by Virginia is being heard in court.  Virginia has filed suit arguing  that the federal government with the health care reform law is making a power grab beyond what the United States Constitution allows.  Basically the state is saying the same thing many of us have said, no where does the federal government have the power to mandate that any citizen purchase a particular commodity.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli outlined his basic argument to NPR earlier in the year. “It is our position that the individual mandate is unconstitutionally overbroad under the Commerce Clause,” Cuccinelli, a Republican, said. “You cannot compel someone to buy something from someone else.” As you will recall, nearly every American will be required to purchase health insurance. This will be important for keeping down the ever rising price of health care in this country, according to the Obama Administration.

Commerce clause you say?  Wait one minute, the Obama administration is now arguing that they (the federal government) have a Constitutional “power to lay and collect taxes.”   However in reading the bill, no where did legislators state the levy as a tax, they continually referred to it as a “penalty.”

Oh yes but the administration is saying that since the law will raise an estimated $4 billion a year, according to the Congressional Budget Office, the “penalty” is a tax.  Plus we have the pesky IRS enforcement aspect of the bill.. exactly what does the IRS collect?

Florida, as well as other states have stated:  “Congress is attempting to regulate and penalize Americans for choosing not to engage in economic activity. If Congress can do this much, there will be virtually no sphere of private decision-making beyond the reach of federal power.”

As these suits proceed forward, lets remember that sixty percent (60%) of voters nationwide favor repeal the passed health care law, including 49% who Strongly Favor repeal. How will these individuals feel once they learn, the “penalty” is really a tax and that the pResident lied to them all-along?  Lets get this information out.. IF your congress critters hold townhalls this summer ask them why the pResident explicitedly stated the “penalty” was not a tax and is now arguing in court that it is. As Representative Joe Wilson stated in the face of outright disdain from the pResident over his blatant lack of honesty…

After laying the groundwork for a decisive vote this week on the Senate’s health-care bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Monday that she might attempt to pass the measure without having members vote on it.

Instead, Pelosi (D-Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand: The House would vote on a more popular package of fixes to the Senate bill; under the House rule for that vote, passage would signify that lawmakers “deem” the health-care bill to be passed.

The tactic — known as a “self-executing rule” or a “deem and pass” — has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill. It is one of three options that Pelosi said she is considering for a late-week House vote, but she added that she prefers it because it would politically protect lawmakers who are reluctant to publicly support the measure.

“It’s more insider and process-oriented than most people want to know,” the speaker said in a roundtable discussion with bloggers Monday. “But I like it,” she said, “because people don’t have to vote on the Senate bill.” (emphasis mine)

Pelosi’s statements become more insulting each day to the intellect of the American people, she believes WE-THE-People are simpletons and do not understand how this gigantic legislation will forever negatively alter health care as we know it in the United States.  NO lawmaker has yet seen this reconstructed bill, it is unavailable for the American public to read yet we have Congress critters like Pete (pay-for-play, Department of Justice investigation) Visclosky stating in emails to constituents that he will vote in favor of the bill.  How does this work?  How can ANY Congressperson state they will vote in favor of a bill that has not been scored by the Congressional Budget office and that they have not yet read?

I have recently heard people speak of “unintended consequences” of legislation that Congress is currently passing, such as the credit card reform act which allowed companies like Chase to up interest rates to almost 30%.  IF these in fact are “unintended,” then why has Congress NOT moved to swiftly pass legislation which would cap interest rates below which would be found by neighborhood loan sharks?  What?  These inept Congressional Reps didn’t know this would happen.. BS, almost immediately after passage of this supposed “reform” credit card companies began sending notices to card holders of rate increases.

How Many Promises Has the President Kept

Whether you voted for the President or not.. words matter.  If you run a campaign on specific claims as to the direction you will lead the country and then fail to adhere to your word.. what does that make you?  And please do not tell me about  the “obstruction” GOP, because the Democrats have controlled Congress for the year.

Federal Payroll Scheduled to Hit 2.15 Million… Largest EVER

Posted by courage On February - 2 - 2010

Does this number surprise anyone?  Bureaucracy breeds top-heavy weasels who will be seen popping in and out of holes throughout the United States.  How do unions fit in this scenario?

New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show that a majority of American union members now work for the government. The pattern of unions adding members in government while losing members in the private sector accelerated during the recession. The typical union member now works in the Post Office, not on the assembly line.

Representing government employees has changed the union movement’s priorities: Unions now campaign for higher taxes on Americans to fund more government spending. Congress should resist government employee unions’ self-interested calls to raise taxes on workers in the private sector.

Is the sizable increase in federal workers a pay-back to unions who supported Obama?  First the government makes it their duty to assure you use the “correct” light bulbs in your home; next they attempt to mandate the minimum type of health insurance you must purchase, now we have a government which is gorging itself and increasing in size on the taxpayer’s dollar.

The era of big government has returned with a vengeance, in the form of the largest federal work force in modern history.

The Obama administration says the government will grow to 2.15 million employees this year, topping 2 million for the first time since President Clinton declared that “the era of big government is over” and joined forces with a Republican-led Congress in the 1990s to pare back the federal work force.

Most of the increases are on the civilian side, which will grow by 153,000 workers, to 1.43 million people, in fiscal 2010.

“I’m shocked that the ‘tea party’ hasn’t focused on it yet, and the Obama administration only has a thin sliver of time to deal more directly with it, I believe,” said Paul C. Light, who studies the federal bureaucracy as a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a professor at New York University. “When you talk about big government, you’re talking about a big employer.”

The new figures are contained in the budget that Mr. Obama sent Monday to Congress.

Mr. Obama says the civilian work force will drop by 80,000 next year, mostly because of a reduction in U.S. census workers added in 2010 but then dropped in 2011 after the national population count is finished. That still leaves 1.35 million civilian federal employees on the payroll in 2011.

From 1981 through 2008, the civilian work force remained at about 1.1 million to 1.2 million, with a low of 1.07 million in 1986 and a high of more than 1.2 million in 1993 and in 2008. In 2009, the number jumped to 1.28 million.

Since Obama took office in 2009, the federal government added an average of 6,666.666.. employees each month.  Eerie?  You bet.  And how does this fit in with a USA Today article from early December.. you remember, the one that stated:

The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data.

Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession’s first 18 months — and that’s before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.

The free money wagon in Washington bureaucracy has exploded, while average people struggle to pay bills and find work, federal employees are living high on the hog supplied by your tax dollars.

Obama talks a good game about fiscal responsibility, heck some people probably believe the lies words which easily flow from his mouth when he makes announcements about cutting the deficit, about understanding the concern the American public feels with the run-away money train in Washington.  Behind the shiny veneer though is a charlatan, a carnival barker, quick to encourage confidence yet void of empathy to the shattered hopes who have placed faith and trust in him.  There is no doubt there is reason behind his madness, there is purpose, for the moment it is hidden behind illusion.  But as with all illusions, as with all scam artists, as with all those who seek to perpetrate deception on the American people.. the illusion will fade, the scam artist will be exposed and the American people will rise up and declare: This is the country of WE-THE-PEOPLE.

16 Lies in 7 Minutes… Plus More…

Posted by courage On February - 1 - 2010

Continually throughout the State of the Union (SOTU) address Obama tried to distance himself from Washington; yet he is part of the problem with his insistence  to move the country toward complete reliance on government.  He sees himself as the parent and us as children.  As children we don’t understand, with our limited intellectual capacity the policies he is pushing.

While talking about health care he said…

And according to the Congressional Budget Office, the independent organization that both parties have cited as the official scorekeeper for Congress, our approach would bring down the deficit by as much as $1 trillion over the next two decades.

What he and all Democrats fail to address when speaking of this illusionary  savings is the numbers crunched by the CBO do not include payments to doctors who take Medicare and Medicaid.   Originally the payment to doctors was included in the House bill, once the CBO estimated a cost over 1.4 trillion it was taken out to make the bill “fiscally” palatable.

Obama goes on to say…

Still, this is a complex issue. And the longer it was debated, the more skeptical people became. I take my share of the blame for not explaining it more clearly to the American people. And I know that with all the lobbying and horse-trading, this process left most Americans wondering, “What’s in it for me?”

Not explaining it more clearly.. are you kidding?  Obama has given over 20 speeches on health care since he took office, the more the people did understand the bill, the more they did NOT like what they saw.  Its not a lack of information, Mr. President… its because the American people DO NOT like what they see as their future.  We are not asking, “what’s in in for me,”  we want to know how we can afford the bill and what rationing will take place if passed?

I am tired of the lies being presented by elected officials regarding climate change.  If anything, they are unsure what causes climate change and the push toward legislation to micromanage every aspect of our lives through  unsubstantiated  science is appalling.   Yet the President can’t help himself…

I know there have been questions about whether we can afford such changes in a tough economy. I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change.

Overwhelming scientific evidence.. you mean the pseudo-data which is being exposed to be nothing more than a power grab?

Never before has a President taken such a backhand swipe at the Supreme Court during a SOTU address..

Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests — including foreign companies — to spend without limit in our elections.  Well, I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, and worse, by foreign entities.

This is an outright lie, they did not overturn a “century of law,” they overturned one small aspect of campaign contributions.  As for foreign entities bankrolling campaigns, I have some questions Mr. President…

What about the dollars for your campaign that flowed in from the mideast? Ahhh, but that just an inconvenient truth, isn’t it?

Starting in 2011, we are prepared to freeze government spending for three years. Spending related to our national security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will not be affected, but all other discretionary government programs will.

Over the last year we, as a nation, have increased spending by an average of 20% across all agencies and departments, some agencies like the EPA have seen a 35% increase.  Washington, and that includes YOU Mr. President have spent like there is no tomorrow.  You champion a spending freeze, yet put it off for another year?  If you are being honest about cutting the deficit, you would demand a freeze NOW, not a year from now.

This is only a small sampling of where reality and fallacy  can not co-exist.  I am still waiting for a President who places the American people before the progressive Democrat agenda.   The American people want the truth not illusion.. We are waiting…

White House Goes on Attack with Lies

Posted by courage On January - 25 - 2010

You Lie

David Axelrod, senior adviser to the President was spotted on TV Sunday saying:

Republicans are “using the filibuster in ways that have never been used before,” and that if they continue to use the procedural tool to block Obama’s agenda, “there will need to be a public discussion about exactly what they’re up to.”

Hey David, I’d like for you to tell me one, just one piece of legislation which has been blocked by filibuster in the last year?  What, you can’t because through the entire first year of the Obama’s administration the Democrats have had a super majority which shut-off any attempt to filibuster.  This is an outright lie.  Obviously you think the American people stupid, you believe we haven’t been paying attention to the shenanigans going on in D.C.; the loose in Massachusetts vividly and without doubt showed that Americans are paying attention and do not like what they are seeing.

“If we don’t move forward and we don’t produce something, the American people are going to believe the caricature that was drawn by the Republicans and the health insurance industry. I think that’s a terrible mistake,” Axelrod said.

Madam Speaker… YOU LIE !

Posted by courage On January - 6 - 2010

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) defended Congress’ work on a healthcare bill Tuesday saying the process has displayed historic transparency, just as C-SPAN mounts an effort to open the negotiations.

C-SPAN wrote a letter to congressional leaders Tuesday asking that TV cameras be allowed to film negotiations to reconcile the House and Senate versions of healthcare reform legislation.

But Pelosi said Congress has already been transparent throughout the process.

“There has never been a more open process for any legislation,” Pelosi said at a press conference. (emphasis mine)

How can she even begin to say this with a straight face?  What can only be described as backroom deals which resulted in bribes for key Senatorial votes, that is “transparency?”  Congress believes the American people fools and unable to see through the blatant corruption that now overflows, like a backed up sewer from Washington.

Pelosi also hinted that holding informal negotiations–likely without TV cameras–might be the most practical way to push the legislation through.

“We will do what is necessary to pass the bill,” Pelosi said.

I’m sure you will, including.. additional bribes, threats and guarantees to particular caucus groups which cater to special interests.  Can we say… Immigration reform, instead of actually enforcing the current laws.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), assistant to the Speaker, said the healthcare bill had been “subjected to unprecedented level of public scrutiny.”(emphasis mine)

And what have the American people been consistently saying the summer?  They don’t want Congress or the administration cramming this insane bill through Congress.  Most recent Rasmussen poll shows, 42% of registered voters are in favor of reform, while 52% oppose.  I would suggest that the public scrutiny is only the accumulated efforts of patriots, who spent countless hours pouring over the legislation and digging through the 2,000 plus page documents;   something that many elected officials did not even bothered to do, before voting in favor of the bill in the House.  Case in point, my own slime ball non-representative Visclosky, whose own office told me you had to be “special,” to read the legislation.

“We don’t even know if there’s going to be a conference committee,” he said, alluding to the likelihood that Democrats will reconcile the two bills behind closed doors.
Pressed on whether C-SPAN cameras would be allowed in negotiations, Van Hollen hedged.

How many time did Obama state that the hearings on health care would be transparent?  He suggested repeatedly all the negotiations would be  carried on CSpan, now we are subject to corruption and special interests groups having a seat at the table , while the voice of the American people is ignored.
