Dear Senator (your Senator’s name),
The lame duck session of the Senate will take up a ban on earmark appropriations. Earmarks should only be attached to pieces of legislation which involve the issue at hand. We the American people are tired of legislation being backfilled with pet projects which do not pertain to the legislation being voted on by elected officials. Often these earmark appropriations are inserted in to legislation after committee review of the base proposal and are never reviewed for their inherent worth.
In the scheme of Congressional legislation, earmarks account for only a small portion of wasteful spending yet every wasted dollar adds to the federal deficit. I urge you to stand as a statesman, acknowledge and adhere to the sacred trust you have been awarded.
I urge you to support legislation which bans earmark appropriations.
