What Is Congress Doing? The Manic Spending Has To Stop!

Posted by courage On December - 13 - 2009

The Senate is set to vote on their version of  an Ominbus bill today.  The House passed their version of the bill on Thursday. The House bill was a …

…1,088-page, $1.1 trillion measure would provide $447 billion in operating budgets for 10 Cabinet departments, awarding increases averaging almost 10 percent. On top of that comes more than $600 billion in payments for federal benefit programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

The 221-202 vote to approve the House-Senate compromise bill sends it to the Senate, which may pass it this weekend and ship it on to President Barack Obama. Not a single Republican voted for the bill.

The generosity comes on top of an infusion of cash to domestic agencies in February’s economic stimulus bill and a $410 billion measure in March that also bestowed budget increases well above inflation. (emphasis mine)

When is the Congress going to understand that deficit spending will ruin the economy?  Back in February Representative Jim McGovern, Democrat of Massachusetts, said that spending bill

“turns the page once and for all on the last eight years.”

So I assume the Obama administration will now take responsibility for the current obscene spending?  Or are they using the “bush, bush, cheney, cheney” chant which deflects personal responsibility from the Obama admin and the other spendalholics currently presiding in Washington?   The final bill in February contained over 8,500 pork laden projects and increased domestic spending by an average of 8%.

Lets take a quick look back to the first of the year..

YouTube Preview ImageRestoring accountability to the White House… Let me know when this happens.
Scrutinize earmarks in public hearings… How does one do this when bills are rushed through?  It is impossible that the Congresscritters have even read the entire bill, let alone analyzed the pork spending and financial impact.
This bill was last years business… When will you start owning the financial disaster we are headed for?

The current Ominbus bill includes:

~ A 120 percent increase for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program; which be needed especially if Cap and Trade passes as our electric bills increase X2.  Don’t forget candidate Obama stated on January 17, 2008 that electricity bills would “necessarily skyrocket” as a result of Cap and Trade.

~ A 30 percent increase for the Corporation for National and Community Service; the pet project of Obama which includes AmeriCorp, otherwise known as the civilian army which he publicly stated he wanted as well funded as the military.

~ A 22 percent increase for the controversial Essential Air Service; so small communities, especailly in rural areas are serviced by certified airlines.

~ A 9 percent increase for Amtrak; being personally involved in the commuter rail industry I can assure you that Amtrak is a money pit, they will NEVER make money because if they do they lose funding hence they will continually have their hands out asking for MORE.

Probably the most obscene spending in the current bill, authorizes money that  permits detainees (aka terrorists) held at Guantanamo to be transferred to the United States to stand trial but not to be released.

First in February an 8% increase, now a 10% increase in spending.  How many of you have seen a 10% increase in your operating expenses, otherwise known as household income?  WE-THE-PEOPLE learn to do without, make changes in our spending habits, and sometimes find a second job.  And the Congress just Spends, but of course the money they willey-nilley throw around isn’t theirs; it comes from the sweat of our labor and is paid through taxes.

If this doesn’t concern you, then you aren’t paying attention.

And if this isn’t enough.. the federal government has exploded the number of employees who are now making 6-figures.
