Let Obama OWN Climate Regulations

Posted by courage On December - 10 - 2009

Obama has been advocating stringent controls placed on just about everything related to your present environment.  Look around.. what do you see?  Are your lights on?  Is your heat running?  Do you have a refrigerator?  How about transportation, do you own a car?   Are you a home owner?  Aspects of each item that adds comfort or makes your life fundamentally possible are going to be effected should climate change (cap and trade) legislation pass the Senate.

In a more indirect manner, what about food?  Do you buy clothes?  For that matter, just think anything you purchase, are you ready to pay higher prices across the board for these items?  If cap and trade passes, everything.. read that again EVERYTHING in your life will increase in price.  As electricity costs rise, as the price of energy increases, the cost to produce everything around you will increase.  Manufactures will pass the cost of doing business down to the lowest common denominator, you the consumer.

As an example,  Indiana families will see household cost for electricity jump approximately $135.00 per month.  You may not think this a great increase, yet think of the local grocery store.. the freezers they operate for your frozen food will cost more for them to operate, the lights in the building which allow you to see while shopping will cost more to have have on, the butcher’s saw used to cut your meat will cost more to operate, plus the canned goods you purchase for the cupboard are going to be costing more because the manufacturer of those canned peas is also being hit with an increased cost of production; in turn the local grocer who now pays more for the peas will have to charge you more. Cap and trade is more, more, more money from your pocket.  And lets not forget the money grab of cap and trade  is based on highly questionable science.

On June 26, 2009 the house passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act, on a 219-216 vote.  The Senate has not addressed their version of this bill, the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act.  Thus far the Senate has not began debate on their reversion of cap and trade.  Apparently the White House, much like a spoiled child is getting crabby with the delay, they had hoped legislation would be passed before the United Nations conference in Copenhagen.

Enter.. the Environmental Protection Agency, with Administrator Lisa Jackson, on Monday the EPA announced that they consider CO2 as an environmental pollutent.
Funny back in the day, I learned that CO2 was necessary for the process of photosynthesis.. silly me, that’s science and the current admin doesn’t seem to understand science.

In this move, the Executive Branch of the government is attempting to do an end-around circumventing legislative process, in addition to overt blackmail of the Senate.  You can hear them, “You better act quickly or we will do something and you won’t like it.”

From CNS news:

“If the Democrat Congress can’t kill jobs by passing a national energy tax, then the Obama Environmental Protection Agency will,” warned Rep. Mike Pence, chairman of the House Republican Conference.

Pence said the EPA’s announcement – which came on the first day of the international climate conference in Copenhagen – is an attempt by the Obama administration to build international support for a binding climate change treaty.

Yes, the Obama admin wants to look good on the national green stage and is willing to do anything, including destroying the economy to claim themselves a leader in green mantra.

“It seems liberal Democrats will stop at nothing to overcome the strong objections of the American people to a cap and tax system,” Pence said. Liberals in Congress are pushing “cap and trade” legislation that would create an entirely new system for buying and selling carbon credits – and raise costs for every energy consumer.

In November, the economy shed 11,000 jobs, and Pence said the EPA’s endangerment finding “will kill even more jobs at a time when more than 15 million workers are unemployed.”

Beyond the job concerns, Pence said the EPA has no business doing an end-run around Congress: “The American people should have their voices heard in this monumental decision.” He urged the president to “allow Congress to work its will on this important issue.”  Pence and most other Republicans oppose cap-and-trade legislation.

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) says the EPA apparently ignored the concerns voiced by the manufacturing industry:

“The endangerment finding will have a cascading effect on the ability of all manufacturers to grow and prosper,” said Keith McCoy, NAM’s vice president of energy and resources policy.

“By declaring GHG emissions a threat to public health and welfare through its endangerment finding, the EPA is paving the way to begin regulating carbon emissions across the board, including large stationary sources such as manufacturing plants, hospitals and libraries under the Clean Air Act.”

The federal regulations – not yet drawn up – would require new and expanding factories and power plants to install the latest pollution-reduction technology. Automobiles already face stricter fuel-efficiency standards.

NAM agrees that Congress, not the EPA, is the body that should address such issues, and it expressed disappointment with the EPA’s “power-grab move.”

Power grab indeed,  lead by the Obama administration everything must be done on hyper-drive.. create an imagined crisis and demand immediate action.. NOW or else.

The Obama administration is warning Congress that if it doesn’t move to regulate greenhouse gases, the Environmental Protection Agency will take a “command-and-control” role over the process in a way that could hurt business.

The warning, from a top White House economic official who spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity, came on the eve of EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson’s address to the international conference on climate change in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Jackson, however, tried to strike a tone of cooperation in her address Wednesday, explaining that the EPA’s new powers to regulate greenhouse gases will be used to complement legislation pending in Congress, not replace it.

“This is not an ‘either-or’ moment. It’s a ‘both-and’ moment,” she said.

But while administration officials have long said they prefer Congress take action on climate change, the economic official who spoke with reporters Tuesday night made clear that the EPA will not wait and is prepared to act on its own.

And it won’t be pretty.

“If you don’t pass this legislation, then … the EPA is going to have to regulate in this area,” the official said. “And it is not going to be able to regulate on a market-based way, so it’s going to have to regulate in a command-and-control way, which will probably generate even more uncertainty.”

Bullying tactics by the White House are predictable as I see it, the green mantra and the validity of the “science” that surrounds this issue is being questioned; even though the admin wants to hide their head in the sand, the American public, indeed the world is coming to realize that something is fishy behind the power grab of green.

So the Senate should let Obama Own climate regulation, let the EPA set it standards and let the American people feel the blunt of this disaster.  I say call the bluff.

For the last year Obama has proposed various legislation, say health care, yet has NEVER offered a bill or a detailed outline as to what he wants passed.  Instead he maneuvers in the back shadows, hiding behind closed door sessions with Congressional Democrats and then faces the cameras saying that something is better then nothing.  This is not the image of a leader, this is the epitome of a coward.

It is time for Obama to step-up and quit hiding behind the shirt-tails of Congress.  Let Obama OWN his green mantra chant, because with all the bullying I see,  like most bullies when the true test comes… they hide.
