SEN. JAY ROCKEFELLER (D-WV): “There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: ‘Out. Off. End. Goodbye.’ It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future.”
AS Rockefeller blabs about his “hunger for quality news,” I, desire for elected officials who understand and adhere to the Constitution. For someone in Rockefeller’s position as a long standing Senator, to easily wave aside the First Amendment and opt for what… some state sponsored media to filter the ideas and viewpoints presented to the American people would pave the road to tyranny.
Rockefeller would have us (the American people) nothing but sheeples, following the current ideologue down the path to serfdom. He does not want, desire nor “hunger” for honest debate, evidenced by the lies they tell us with such ease. They treat us as children unable to grasp even the most elementary concepts and continually berate us as stupid.
Of course the next step in dis-empowering the people would be to regulate the internet, because as I’m sure Rockefeller would suggest… unbridled freedom on the internet is harmful to the American people and inflames tension among the unwashed masses. Wait.. nevermind since Rockefeller is on record as wanting government control of the internet, all in the name of curtailing discourse, safeguarding citizens and providing the public with a skewed version of fascism pie.
There was no mistake that the Founders believed the liberties reiterated in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights vitally important to a free society.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The attacks on our liberties are far from over, patriots. We must remain vigilant and connected always aware of those who seek to divide us away from liberty and toward their ideal of some totalitarian Utopian.
