Now this is some smart tourism marketing… enjoy!
Illinois should offer itself as the sanctuary state for all wayward cowardly Democrats. The Hoosier Indy Democrats are still AWOL.
The interview yesterday with guest Niall Ferguson (Professor of History at Harvard) on MSNBC garnered well deserved attention attention across the internet. This is the full unedited version:
Anyone who has watched the floundering of the Obama administration during the last two weeks, knows exactly what the Professor is speaking about. The entire panel on the Morning Joe set seem uncomfortable with the analysis Mr. Ferguson offers. But what can be expected from a cast of characters who drank Kool-Aid, only knowing how fawn over the One we’ve been waiting for pResident. I wonder how soon the Professor will be asked back as a guest to provide historical analysis?
Indeed Professor Ferguson, touchy, feelie speeches are not a substitute for having a strategy.
John Bolton goes where no CPAC speakers dared to tread, foreign policy. The more I hear Bolton speak, the more I like him.
From Investors Business Daily:
Islamofascism: Romantics in Western media expect “democracy” to flower from the anti-Mubarak rioting in Cairo. But polling shows Egyptians actually seek strict Islamic rule.
According to a major survey conducted last year by the Pew Research Center, adults in Egypt don’t crave Western-style democracy, as pundits have blithely trumpeted throughout coverage of the unrest.
Far from it, the vast majority of them want a larger role for Islam in government. This includes making barbaric punishments, such as stoning adulterers and executing apostates, the law of their country. With the ouster of their secular, pro-American leader, they may get their wish.
Among highlights from the Pew poll:
Testifying today before the House Budget Committee, Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director Doug Elmendorf confirmed that Obamacare is expected to reduce the number of jobs in the labor market by an estimated 800,000. Here are excerpts from the exchange:
Chairman [Paul] Ryan: “[I]t’s been argued…that the new health care law will create jobs and increase labor force participation. But if I recall from your analysis, it was quite the opposite. Is that not the case?”
Director [Douglas] Elmendorf : “Yes.”…
Rep. [John] Campbell: Thank you, Mr. Chairman, we’ll — and Dr. Elmendorf — and we’ll continue this conversation right now. First on health care, before I get to — before I get to broader issues, you just mentioned that you believe — or that in your estimate, that the health care law would reduce the labor used in the economy by about 1/2 of 1 percent, given that, I believe you say, there’s 160 million full-time people working in ’20-’21. That means that, in your estimation, the health care law would reduce employment by 800,000 in ’20-’21. Is that correct?
Director Elmendorf: Yes. The way I would put it is that we do estimate, as you said, that…employment will be about 160 million by the end of the decade. Half a percent of that is 800,000.
Just Thursday, I was in a discussion with a co-worker, a guy I have known for almost 30 years. He’s a good guy, intelligent and strongly Democratic. We were talking about the Health Care law, with his opinion being that the law was needed. We sparred back on forth as to what exactly could have been passed instead of an overreaching life intruding bill which became law. He believes the bill originally started as small steps, steps him and I can agree on which then exploded with addendum’s from both political parties and created the 100,000 page monstrosity which became law. Now there is no factual proof to this belief he righteously stated, yet because he deeply believes this to be true, facts are thrown out the window and it becomes gospel.
The reason I bring this up is because one main tenet which he believes to be true and that he continually brought up was that the law needed passage so to create jobs. Which of course was one way which the administration sold this travesty to the willing sheeple of the country. When pressed as to how job creation would be accomplished, he could offer no concise explanation. When I suggested it would constrict employment as employers hesitate to hire new personal because of the high cost associated with mandatory insurance. <crickets>
A taxpayer watchdog group is throwing a penalty flag on President Obama’s assertion in a Super Bowl pre-game interview that he didn’t raise taxes, claiming the president signed into law at least two dozen tax increases.
“Just 16 days into his presidency, Obama signed into law a 156 percent increase in the federal excise tax on tobacco — a hike of 62 cents per pack,” Americans for Tax Reform said in a press release Monday, arguing that Obama’s approval of this tax hike was a violation on his campaign pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class.
“I lowered taxes over the last two years,” he said in an interview that aired before the heavily-viewed Superbowl on Sunday.
But ATR cites the health care law as an Obama administration imperative that contains two dozen new or higher taxes, including the individual mandate tax and the employer mandate tax.
“President Obama’s entire claim of being a net tax-cutter rests merely upon the temporary tax relief he has signed into law,” the group said. “The tax increases Obama has signed into law have invariably been permanent. In fact, Obama has signed into law $7 in permanent tax hikes for every $1 in permanent tax cuts.”
One of Obama’s temporary tax cuts was in the 2% decrease in Social Security payroll withholding’s whether you agree with the federally mandated system or not, the truth is that the system is in deep financial trouble. Last year was the first time SS was paying out more money then it was receiving, by reducing the amount of withholding Obama has assured a larger deficit in the fund and hastened an inevitable crisis.
The quasi-extended Bush tax rates kept status quo on some rates while raising other rates such as the Estate Tax, otherwise known as the Death tax. In 2010, the death tax rate was at 0 (zero), under Obama that rate has jumped to 35%. There is NO moral justification in the re-taxing of estate assets after an individual dies, unless of course you believe in redistributing the wealth of productive people.
What should be clear to most who watch the political maneuvers of Obama, do not listen to what he says, watch what policies he advocates and eventual does, to him words mean little. Or perhaps we should take the pResident at his word, he didn’t raise a single tax but rather a bunch of taxes. So in the immortal words of Joe Wilson… “you lie.”

This item was from a week ago, prior to Mubarak’s flight from office. The 7 million number is debatable, the highest numbers I have seen are 1 million with the lowest at 100,00. But that is inconsequential, what is of concern is the Muslim Brotherhood’s call for a return to Islamic law (aka Sharia), and here I thought as all the mainstream media keep telling us, the protests were about democracy.
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) – Spokesman of Muslim Brotherhood said that the unprecedented presence of over 7 million Egyptian people in the Friday protests shook the palace of Hosni Mubarak.
Ahmad Mersi told al-Alam news network that the Egyptian revolutionary people demand a restoration of Islamic rules in the country and an ouster of Mubarak’s despotic rule. (emphasis mine)
“A Time For Choosing” – The speech Ronald Reagan gave on behalf of Sen. Barry Goldwater’s presidential campaign. Sen. Goldwater did not prevail, but this speech launched Mr. Reagan’s political career.
In three years, he was Governor Ronald Reagan.
I was only six at the time of this speech in 1964. The sentiments Reagan spoke then ring true today and has me wondering,”have we not learned?”
If you have never heard this entire speech, take 30 minutes of your time and listen. Are not many of the thoughts Reagan expressed, while backing Goldwater, not the same principles which fueled the advent of the Tea Party and the Patriot movement?
