Proclamation Establishing Thanksgiving Day

October 3, 1863

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies.  To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.  In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.  Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore.  Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years, with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things.  They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people.  I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.   And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth.

A. Lincoln

How can Attorney General Holder hem and haw when asked about judiciary precedence in trying terrorist in federal court?   A reasonable person would assume that the AG investigated precedence prior to making this decision,  apparently not since Senator Graham had to tell him it was unprecedented.

And why are we giving miranda rights to terrorists caught on the battle field?  Throughout history, miranda rights have never been given to enemy combatants.. period.  This was even true during the civil war, when Confederate soldiers were captured on US soil.  This move by the administration is unconscionable and threatens the safety of every American.

Who did not see this coming, except the administration?

Bayh Flips Like a Fish.. Health Care

Over the last two days I have tried to phone Senator’s Bayh’s office to no avail.  I have emailed his office and received a canned response.  Just once, I’d like him to address the actual issues I raise in my letters to him.. just once!

He keeps stating he is against the escalating national debt and how Congress needs to stop this shameful spending.  Yet he votes to allow the Senate bill to move forward.. along with its $1 plus trillion price tag which will bankrupt the country.  Senator, you can spout the championing of America.. but when Democratic push comes to shove.. you place America, your constituents last on your list of loyalties.

What can you expect from an elitist who didn’t think it important enough to hold a single town hall meeting during the summer break?  Well Evan, I voted for you when you ran for Governor, again when you ran for the Senate… you are up for re-election in 2010.. hmmm and I’m thinking you just may be looking for another job come January 2011.

Consider this your pink slip…

Senate to Vote on Health Care “Reform”

Posted by courage On November - 20 - 2009

Readers should already know my feelings on the proposed health care “reform” and take-over of 1/6th of the US economy.

Rumblings are being heard that Senator Reid will move to vote this Saturday.  He will be moving to have Senators vote on cloture, meaning that debate will be limited to 20 hours before voting on the bill.  How can legislation with devastating economic upheaval be rushed through without extended debate?  I believe it is because as more and more Americans learn of the actual impact on their individual lives, the more polls show that Americans do NOT want this terrible power grab.

New letters are available to copy and paste urging your Senator to vote NO on this legislation.  See top tool bar of this site under “sample letters”

If you aren’t paying attention, perhaps now you will.  For decades organizations such as the American Cancer Society have recommended  early baseline mammography for women starting at age 40.  In addition for decades feminists have advocated that women learn more about their bodies; encouraging  women  to learn breast self-exam techniques.

Any woman my age should remember the early book “Our Bodies, Ourselves,” which was the first comprehensive book which advocated women learning about their bodies. These groups (Feminists) and organizations (such as The American Cancer Society) care about the well-being of the woman, unlike the US Preventative Services Task Force.

The focus of this governmental agency centers on using a cost analysis, weighing treatment or procedure cost against benefit and outcome.  Welcome to rationing, the government decides who can get which procedures and whether these procedures and treatments are cost effective.

SEIU Illegal Voter Fraud in Fresno.. Homecare Workers

Posted by courage On November - 16 - 2009

From the National Union of Healthcare Workers:

Among the illegal tactics reported:

  • SEIU staff tampered with workers’ ballots, by voiding the ballots of workers who marked their ballot for NUHW, and by collecting ballots directly from workers’ mailboxes.
  • Senior SEIU officials instructed staff to handle ballots in violation of election rule, and advised staff on how to do so in a way that was legally deniable.
  • SEIU organizers threatened Latino caregivers that SEIU would “call immigration” and have them deported in retaliation unless they voted for SEIU.
  • SEIU officials instructed staff to threaten and lie to voters that they would lose their  wages, their health insurance, and even their jobs unless they voted for SEIU.

This underscores the very reasons why I believe The Employee Free Choice should never pass.  Read my article on this legislation here.

Unions care only about their membership numbers, centering on the amount they can receive from monthly dues and mandatory pension  contributions.  If the Employee Free Choice Act should ever pass the Senate, those now free to make choices will find themselves under the weight of these corrupt organizations.

The Stimulus Money… We Found the Jobs

Posted by courage On November - 16 - 2009

From the Washington Times:

Of the $1 billion in clean-energy stimulus money spent since the beginning of September, $850 million has gone to foreign wind companies. It doesn’t take a bunch of experts at a hastily planned “jobs summit” to discover this isn’t the way to bolster employment in America.

Geez.. 75% of the money went to foreign companies.

Indeed, the 11 U.S. wind farms that received stimulus money from the Treasury have imported 695 of the 982 wind turbines to be installed, creating 4,500 jobs overseas. That’s far more overseas work than the stimulus money has created in the United States.

Ah the global poser-in-chief has a plan.. use US tax payer dollars to fund and create jobs overseas, doesn’t this make you feel warm and fuzzy?
