Gas Taking an Additional $168/Month from Household Budget

Posted by courage On May - 29 - 2011

And what exactly is this administrations energy policy?  And do they know the American people are hurting?  Yet the more accurate question is does this administration care?

High prices at the pump are putting a squeeze on the family budget as the traditional summer driving season begins. For every $10 the typical household earns before taxes, almost a full dollar now goes toward gas, a 40 percent bigger bite than normal.

Households spent an average of $369 on gas last month. In April 2009, they spent just $201. Families now spend more filling up than they spend on cars, clothes or recreation. Last year, they spent less on gasoline than each of those things.

snip..

“These increases are not something consumers can shrug off,” says James Hamilton, an economics professor at the University of California, San Diego, who studies gas prices. “It’s a key part of the family budget.

The ramifications are far-reaching for an economy still struggling to gain momentum two years into a recovery. Economists say the gas squeeze makes people feel poorer than they actually are.

They’re showing it by limiting spending far beyond the gas station. Wal-Mart recently blamed high gas prices for an eighth straight quarter of lower sales in the U.S. Target said gas prices were hurting sales of clothes.

Every 50-cent jump in the cost of gasoline takes $70 billion out of the U.S. economy over the course of a year, Hamilton says. That’s about one half of one percent of gross domestic product.

Anne Barnhardt Takes it to Senator Lindsey Graham

Posted by courage On April - 6 - 2011

Anyone who heard Senator Graham on Face the Nation had to wonder why “journalist” Bob Schieffer did not follow up and ask Graham IF he was suggesting  free speech be banned in the United States.  Graham seems to suggest that the burning of the Koran in the United States should be banned.

Listen for yourself:

Personally I was appalled by Graham’s statements but this reply by Anne Barnhardt pretty well sums up my feelings:

Jackass, indeed!  You go gal, your ovaries are bigger than any peanuts Graham may have.

Illinois Passes a 66% Tax Increase

Posted by courage On January - 12 - 2011

As a Hooiser who works just across the border on the southside of Chicago, Illinois’s  new tax increase will effect my family and me.  I do not have the opportunity to vote out of office the irresponsible Congress critters who rob my payroll check.  So in silence I will watch as the state siphons off another 2% of my earnings.

In a move which can  be described as intellectual dishonesty the Illinois legislature inserted a 2% spending cap in to the legislation to offer the appearance of fiscal responsibility, should their budget increase over  2% the new tax levels will be canceled.  For the unthinking, the appearance is one of tightened budget measures, but in reality the state payroll tax increase from 3% to the new rate of 5% becomes a zero sum gain with a 2% increase.  Inch by inch the Illinois general assembly will raise their spending budget and there will be no moving to fiscal solvency in Illinois.  The legislation offers the illusion of the increase being a  temporary increase moving to 3.75 in four years and lower after 14 years.  Who honestly believes these increases will be rolled back without dramatic budget cuts?

Illinois can not pay their bills.. period.  Over the last decade plus on average Illinois has increased its spending budget by 5.7% each year, revenues have dropped.  Like other states which are controlled by Democrats Illinois is in deep trouble.

The newly elected Governor Patrick Quinn said it best, “The fiscal house is burning in Illinois.”  No kidding?

No where, let me repeat this in other terms.. NEVER has a state solved a fiscal crisis by raising taxes without making massive budget cuts.  Every voter in Illinois should be outraged at this increase and the shenanigans being played in Springfield, but voters in Illinois handed control over to these critters and now must pay the piper.

Fraud in the Pigford Settlement .. Backdoor Reparations

Posted by courage On December - 7 - 2010

Many may not be aware of the Pigford settlement, the mainstream media has all but ignored what amounts to a flood gate of reparations soon to be paid out to “black farmers.”

Black farmers is in quotes above because the necessity of proof  of  USDA discrimination on the part of individuals in this settlement is laughable.  Fill out some minor paperwork claiming you were denied USDA loans because you are black and shazam.. you are entitled to $50,000 in reparations from the government.  No proof needed, other than your word since the USDA did not keep files of the loans applications which were turned down.

Earmarks: Time to Stop the Congressional Pork Games

Posted by courage On November - 15 - 2010

As early as tomorrow (11-16-2010) the Senate may take up pork barrel spending otherwise known as earmarks.  You know those pet project add-ons which Congress critters slip in to legislation to show the folks back home they are doing something for their constituents.

Often these add-ons are totally unrelated to the legislation which they are attached to.  They are not reviewed by committee and are “favors” to the Congress critters whose states/districts they will eventually land in.  You’ve seen them reported, things like studying the impact of cow flatulence on the environment, the effects of alcohol on prostitutes in Taiwan, the mating habits of mice or installing new windows in a visitors center which has long ago been closed; none of these “projects” would stand peer review for their inherent worth.  In fact I would suggest that none of them would pass unless attached to some other “vital legislation.”

It is time that Congress starts being honest with Americans and shuffling earmarks in to legislation is a violation of the trust we given elected officials.

Daily Kos Admits Fraudulent Polling Data

Posted by courage On June - 29 - 2010

WOW !

Gee, who would have thought the polls used on the liberal blog DailyKos were bogus?   A minor indicator may have been that their polls consistently showed stronger support for all the left/progressive agenda than any other polling agencies on the same subject matter.

I have just published a report by three statistics wizards showing, quite convincingly, that the weekly Research 2000 State of the Nation poll we ran the past year and a half was likely bunk. (emphasis mine)

Kos continually used the polling research they commissioned to validate the positions they advocated, which allowed their readers the false satisfaction they were within the ideological mainstream. I do give Daily Kos credit for being forthright with their discovery; yet for a year and half, while these polls deviated greatly from other respected polling agencies, didn’t they think it odd?  Such is the case though for many progressive types, even when faced with stark bare truths, if they do not fit neatly in to their ideological schema they debase the facts as fabrications of some right wing conspiracy.  Of course it did serve their cause, at least for the last year and a half.  Whimsically fabricated data eventually will be challenged and such was the case.  This places in to doubt any “information” gained from the blog, what reputable information gatherer would have “bunk” statistical data presented a fact for a year and half?

I prefer polling done by Rasmussen, they solely canvas registered voters for their polls.  Registered voters are at least somewhat connected to the political process.  On particular surveys done by Rasmussen they only use “likely” voters and have shown the most reliable predictions during elections.

From a recent survey performed by Rasmussen:

Even as oil washes up on their shores from the still-spewing oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, 79% of Louisiana voters believe offshore oil drilling should be allowed, and nearly as many support deepwater drilling.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Louisiana finds that just 15% do not believe offshore oil drilling should be allowed.

Oval Office Address… A Push for Cap and Trade

Posted by courage On June - 15 - 2010

Tonight the pResident will address the American people from the Oval office.  The official stated reason for this address is to update the people on the BP Gulf catastrophe, with the hidden agenda a prime time lecture to US citizens about the dire need for Congress to pass a comprehensive  energy program otherwise known as Cap and Trade.  Never waste a CRISIS to implement policy which has stalled in the Senate after barely passing the House last year.  Cap and Trade legislation will destroy the economy and place further hardship on households across the country as prices for every commodity we purchase jumps in price.

I don’t expect the pResident to deal with the ineptness of his administration in dealing with the clean-up and protection of the shores of Gulf.  I would hope to hear explanations and solutions offered on the fiasco of the government response.  These are a couple of items I would like to see addressed:

~  Why has the Jones Act which prevents foreign ships to operate in our sovereign waters not been suspended?  The Danes who are considered the experts in oil spill containment offered on day two of the spill to send specialized ships and gear to the region to help and were told .. NO.  In fact 13 countries have offered their assistance and have been told NO.

~  Governor Jindal   requested permission to erect shoal barriers within days of the spill to assist in protecting the delicate marsh areas, after considerable delay and much frustration Jindal finally told the federal government to f$%^ off and made the decision to begin creating the barriers, but only after the oil had already begun to taint the shores.

~  Why has a no-fly zone been instituted over the spill, which prevents reporters from first hand reporting of the devastation?

~  Why is the the military being used for a tight security lockdown on  Grand Isle, Louisiana ?

~  And what of the reports that the leak is actually below the ocean seabed, which brings an entirely new worst case scenario into the picture?  For additional information on this potentially eco-destroying possibility, check out Oil Drum, take time to read the comment section below.

My prediction the pResident won’t address any of these issues, rather staying true to form we will see him attempting to coherse the American public in embracing cap and trade. NEVER waste a CRISIS.

What questions would you like to see the pResident address?

Will any of these valid questions be answered?

Obama Pledges $400 Million to Gaza and Palestinians

Posted by courage On June - 10 - 2010

The United States Gulf is experiencing a catastrophe of unprecedented proportions, the spewing BP oil now extends to the Florida Keys.  We as a nation are experiencing day 52 of the Gulf coast held hostage and Obama has yet to speak with the CEO of British Petroleum, he’d rather huddle with the theorists now occupying the White House and play games of “what if.”

Oh but wait, never mind the ecological disaster which may not be cleaned in our lifetime, lets meet with Palestinian Leader Mahmoud Abbas and promise to give the Gaza people and Palestine $400 million dollars for humanitarian purposes.

President Obama pledged an infusion of $400 million in aid for housing, school construction and business development in the Palestinian territories Wednesday, saying after a one-on-one meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas that the situation in Gaza is “inherently unstable.”

“We agree that Israelis have the right to prevent arms from entering into Gaza that can be used to launch attacks into Israeli territory,” Obama told reporters after his meeting with Abbas in the White House. “But we also think that it is important for us to explore new mechanisms so that we can have goods and services, and economic development, and the ability of people to start their own businesses, and to grow the economy and provide opportunity within Gaza.”

And although I have seen reports questioning the “hardship” being experienced in Gaza, the primary question remains who is responsible for any dismal conditions currently in Gaza?  The cold hard fact is the terrorist organization Hamas is the party responsible for any chaos  in the region.  Even the administration admits that Hamas controls Gaza.  As long as the Palestinian government is complacent in allowing Hamas to terrorize any organization or individual citizen who does not adhere to Sharia law under the Koran, there will be continual hardship for the Gaza people.  In fact a summer camp built by the United Nations in a Gaza neighborhood was recently destroyed.  Some Hamas organizations were outspokenly against the camp days before the destruction.  While a high ranking leader of Hamas condemned the incident, it falls in line with other acts of terror used by Hamas or groups who adhere to Sharia law.

While the pResident states the money supplied will be allocated by organizations performing relief work, there is no guarantee that the money will make one bit of difference in the quality of life for the people in the area controlled by Hamas.  Oh, the Hamas terrorists may be able to eat, buy a home or start a business with the money but for the people outside the Hamas terror loop.. life will be the same.

As Representative Pence asks the pResident on the floor of the House, “Whose side are you on?”

YouTube Preview Image

I can only assume his question was asked in rhetorical manner, because from where I am sitting the pResident is not on the side of the American people nor does he show support to long standing allies.

American citizens of the Gulf, indeed of the entire country, the State Department assures you..

“the projects “a down payment” on the U.S. commitment to improving life in Gaza.”

Now doesn’t that make you feel good?
